Read on for a sneak peek at what we’ve planned for RISE National 2023 on the second day of the main conference, Wednesday, March 8. You won’t want to miss one moment!

Two inspiring keynote presentations, the announcement of this year’s Block Award winner, hot topic concurrent sessions, and a must-attend panel on health care trends in 2023 will be among the highlights of the second day of RISE National 2023.

Award presentation

The morning will begin with the presentation of the Dr. Martin L. Block Award. Each year RISE presents the prestigious award to an individual who has made a significant impact in the lives of America’s seniors through clinical leadership, policy vision, and through superior example of the RISE mission to promote continuous improvement in the health care system. The award is named in honor of Dr. Block, a regular speaker at RISE National who passed away from brain cancer at the age of 62 on Oct. 28, 2013. The quality award was established and first presented in 2014 in recognition of his contributions to innovations in risk adjustment and to honor his life’s work. This year we had 12 nominations. Join us to find out who this year’s winner will be!

Keynote addresses

We’ll then hear two compelling keynote presentations. First, Ironman Champion Triathletes Brent and Kyle Pease, sponsored by Inovalon, will take attendees on their journey from their first race, through the multiple 'no’s' to the final 'yes' from Kona, getting to the start line, the ups and downs to the finish line, and beyond. They’ll discuss what it was like growing up in their family, how it meant living a life of doing all within your power to succeed, and ensuring that no single person is ever left on the sidelines.

Next, Dr. Wendy Sue Swanson, pediatrician, author of Mama Doc Medicine, and a pioneer in the use of the digital space to provide humanistic doctor-patient information, will present “Technology & Health: What’s Changing and What’s Not.” She’ll explore what matters most with today’s challenges for humans (such as prevention of disease, COVID-19, violence, isolation, cancer, heart disease, mental health, and costs in health care) as smartphones and technology transform the way we live our lives.

Concurrent tracks

Before and after lunch, attendees will choose sessions from different tracks:

  • The risk adjustment strategies track: Making your risk adjustment compliance driven (morning) and Meaningful approach to social determinants of health (SDoH) (afternoon)
  • Integrating silos track: Looking beyond standardized data and meeting your members where they are (morning) and How to leverage data and analytics with your providers (afternoon)

Health care trends and readiness strategies for 2023

We’ll finish up with a powerhouse panel made up of health care executives who will discuss the regulatory and compliance trends to watch this year and strategies to address them. Panelists include Melanie Prince, president/CEO, MAPyourWay, LLC; Carmela Costiniuk, vice president, population health and clinical transformation, Catholic Medical Partners; and Margaret Paroski, M.D., president & CEO and chief medical officer, Catholic Medical Partners.

Moderator Vandna Pandita, vice president, HEDIS strategy & analytics, AmeriHealth Caritas, pictured right, said the panel is still working on the final topics but will likely touch on industry concerns, such as the nursing shortage, the digital evolution, handling the increasing volume of data and making it more efficient, ownership of the data, and personalization of the member experience.

RISE National 2023 will take place March 7-8, with preconference workshops on March 6, at The Broadmoor Resort, Colorado Springs. Click here to see the full agenda, roster of speakers, and how to register.
