The RISE Value-Based Care Summit: An inside look at the all-new pre-conference workshop

This year’s event, which will take place  June 29-July 1 in Scottsdale, Ariz., will feature two new workshops. Here’s an inside look at what to expect.

The RISE Value-Based Care Summit will kick off with a preconference workshop day on June 29, with two concurrent workshops from 1p.m. to 5 p.m. Additional registration is required to participate in either workshop.

Workshop A

This workshop will take a deep dive into value-based care (VBC) contracts from strategy to execution.

Dr. Ekaette Joseph-Isang, principal consultant, Ritebridge, will lead the four-hour session. Topics will include::

  • Core principles of VBC contracts and how they differ from traditional fee-for-service agreements
  • Different VBC contract models, including shared savings, shared risk, bundled payments, and capitation
  • Key financial and risk-sharing structures in VBC contracts to assess their potential impact on payers and providers
  • Contractual clauses and compliance considerations, including regulatory requirements such as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services guidelines, Stark Law, and Anti-Kickback Statutes
  • Financial models and performance metrics used in VBC contracts, such as quality measures, cost efficiency, and utilization benchmarks
  • Strategies for payer-provider collaboration, engagement, and change management to ensure successful contract execution
  • Data-sharing frameworks and analytics tools to monitor contract performance and drive evidence-based decision-making
  • Challenges that arise during VBC contract implementation and propose solutions for mitigating financial and operational risks

Workshop B

The second four-hour workshop, which will run concurrently with workshop A, will focus on VBC operational excellence, designed for both health plan operations and risk bearing provider groups—both Medicare Advantage and accountable care organizations.

Dr. Shannon Decker, principal, VBC One, will lead the session, covering five key areas:

  • Risk: the basics; programmatics, including prospective, concurrent, retrospective reviews, internal coding team management, and home assessment programs; and oversight.
  • Quality: the basics; programmatics, including member communication programs/incentives and health fairs; and oversight.
  • Total cost of care: the basics; programmatics, including hospital contracting—inpatient versus observation, ASC procedures, partnering with specialists, ER UC campaigns, hospital at home; and oversight.
  • Analytics and reporting: operational monitoring for management; interdepartmental collaboration, including who to work with and how often to communicate; and community partnerships, including how to evaluate, who to select, and implementation guidance.
  • Contract evaluation: what’s in it and how to prioritize it, and financial implication of the components above and how to monitor throughout the year.
