Bennett B. Borden, data scientist, attorney and globally recognized authority on artificial intelligence’s (AI) legal, technological, and policy implications, will participate in a fireside chat on Wednesday, August 27, the final day of RISE West 2025 in Las Vegas.
AI is the most transformative technology since electricity and it is crucial that health care organizations aren’t left behind, says Borden, founding partner and CEO, Clarion AI Partners.
“It’s going to affect every aspect of our society,” he told RISE, “And companies that understand how to safely and effectively incorporate this into what they do are going to jet ahead of companies that do not.”
Borden will discuss AI risks, rules, and opportunities in health care during a special session at RISE West 2025 with Tina Dueringer, CEO, Principal Advisor, Dueringer Advisors, Inc. The theme of this year’s Medicare Advantage senior leadership conference is pivoting from short-term adjustments to long-term strategy.
Borden and Dueringer hope the session will help health care executives embrace the opportunities that AI can bring to the industry and not fear it. Indeed, Borden told RISE that despite the AI hype, health care leaders can use AI, which is a technical solution, with complete control. The technology, he said, will not take over for people, but it will allow providers to extend and augment their skills.
Dueringer said she is excited for senior leaders to hear from Borden that there is governance and guardrails to AI and it will take smart people to continue to make AI work.
“It’s just our jobs are going to look different,” she said. “They won’t necessarily be gone. They are just going to look different.”
Borden said that because health care is a highly regulated industry there are already controls in place to make sure organizations operate within set boundaries. “It’s not like you are reinventing the wheel,” he explained. “You’re just adding to it.” For example, he said, if you add AI into a particular workflow, you need to consider how it changes your risk profile and what you can do to reasonably mitigate those risks.
