This year’s two-day RISE Value-Based Care Summit will feature scheduled networking opportunities, roundtable discussions with industry leaders, and 25 tracked sessions aligned with four key content themes, including technology solutions to improve value-based care outcomes, value-based care excellence, provider relations improvement, and cost reduction strategies. Here are five sessions targeting hot-button topics in value-based care you won’t want to miss:
1. Keynote address on health care experience metrics
The conference will kick-off with an insightful keynote address on measuring what matters and reframing health care experience metrics to drive value from Laura Cooley, Ph.D., editor-in-chief, Journal of Patient Experience. Cooley will discuss evidence on what matters most to health care consumers and the patients and families they support; opportunities to modify survey structures and measurement tools to better understand what is most important to consumers; ways to reduce measurement burden, increase timeliness, and apply findings generated from experience data; and health care experience benchmarking opportunities to drive accountability and improvement.
2. A look at the ACO Reach Model
A panel of industry experts will sit down together to discuss how to assess experience with the ACO Reach Model so far. The panelists will explore the changes that have been made within your organization to comply with the ACO Reach Model and discuss any challenges have occurred, opportunities to improve our approach to maximize the model, how the ACO Reach Model will continue to change how we operate, and the differences between the ACO Reach Model and Medicare Shared Savings Program. Speakers will include Juliette Price, chief solutions officer, Helgerson Solutions Group; Scott Kitchen, vice president intelligence, analytics and information systems, Catholic Medical Partners; and Margaret Paroski, M.D., president & CEO and chief medical officer, Catholic Medical Partners.
3. A discussion on contracting
There will be a session tailored to assessing the impact of specialty care on value-based contracting led by Theresa Dreyer, MPH, manager, value-based care, Association of American Medical Colleges, and Allison Foster, director, value-based care, SCAN Health Plan. Dreyer and Foster will discuss contracting variations when contracting for specialty care, the importance of network adequacy for types of care such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes, kidney care, and cardiology, and best practices when defining costs, metrics, and risk when contracting with specialty care organizations.
4. A session on risk-based agreements
Speakers Stephen Linesch, principal, Paradigm Group, and Brad Heywood, ASA, MAAA, consulting actuary, Wakely, will lead a session on how to structure risk-based agreements for provider groups. They’ll talk about how to create and implement a financial checklist for the value-based contract to avoid costly errors, every detail of the contract to identify costly items with a better alternative, and risk-based arrangements that can increase market share.
5. A timely conversation on private equity investors inclusion
There will be a panel discussion on the inclusion of private equity investors in value-based care. Jason Helgerson, founder & CEO, Helgerson Solutions Group, former New York & Wisconsin Medicaid director, will moderate the conversation between Steven Weiss, senior vice president, The Bloom Organization, and Kenneth Persaud M.D., CEO, Omega Health, who will talk about what private equity investors and venture capitalists are searching for in value-based care, how they view their investments and why it is an exciting opportunity for them to invest in value-based care, and the pros and cons of partnering with an investor through a value-based agreement.
