Artificial intelligence (AI) is here to stay whether you like it or not. Get a better understanding of the basics of AI and its potential at RISE’s inaugural virtual event February 27-28, 2024.

Whether you are new to AI or have intermediate knowledge, the AI in Health Care Summit is designed with you in mind. Sessions will focus on practical applications for physicians, providers, health plans, and those focused on patient care so you can integrate AI at your organization.

Here is what’s planned:

Tuesday, February 27

AI expert Diana Kelley will kick off the virtual summit at 11:10 a.m. EST with a keynote presentation that addresses AI basics. Kelley, former cybersecurity field CTO for Microsoft, and the CISO of Protect AI, will sift through the hype vs. reality of the technology. She’ll explain what AI is and the various applications in health care, review critical terminology, such as machine learning and generative AI, and will also assess potential pitfalls and opportunities in AI.

At noon, Sareer Zia, CEO, Virtual Hospitalist, will then take the virtual stage to address Embracing change: New era of collaboration. She’ll discuss essential AI technologies that are reshaping health care and explain how to integrate AI-based tools to elevate team performance.

Next, learn why data management is critical to adoption. Risk adjustment specialist Shannon Decker of VBC One, will explain how to ensure your data is accurate and ready for AI usage. She’ll also discuss how to minimize potential challenges with data collection and evaluate AI’s interpretation of your data set.

Join Rahul Kashyap, medical director research, WellSpan Health, and Data Scientist Harpreet Singh Grewal at 1:50 p.m. for a presentation on Generative AI: Exploring utilization and application. This session will explore how Generative AI generates content such as images, text, and sound. Kashyap and Grewal will also examine the transformational benefits of Generative AI and discuss possible misinterpretations due to hallucinations.

The Realtime LLM and ChatGPT demonstration will help you better understand Generative Pre-Trained Transformers (GPT) and Large Language Models (LLMs). Attendees will see use cases on how LLMs can improve patient care and a demonstration using Chat GPT/LLM for health care needs.

The first day will wrap up with a discussion on who is responsible for AI in your organization. Daniel Chertok, senior data scientistdata analytics, information technology, NorthShore–Edward-Elmhurst Health, will join a panel to review lines of business that should be involved in implementation of AI; the need to collaborate with IT, compliance, data/analytics, physicians, operations; and how to evaluate the appropriate governance for AI measures.

Wednesday, February 28

The day will kick off at 11:10 a.m. EST with a session on how to create an inhouse AI predictive model. Juliane Mantz, associate director, biostatistics oncology, EMD Serono, Inc., will explore best practices for gathering and evaluating data, determine how you want your model to perform, and review testing and validation to minimize false positives.

Jack Holloway, manager of data science, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, and Laura Sheriff, vice president, risk adjustment, Southwestern Health Resources, will then go over vendor selection and management prospects. They’ll help you evaluate the pros and cons of building in-house models vs. outsourcing, how to determine needs and opportunities within your organization, and tips to explain to shareholders why your organization would benefit from AI.

The session Ethical and responsible AI in health care will examine how bias in AI affects health care decision-making, how to measure and mitigate bias in AI, and explore real life use cases in health care AI with practical solutions. Ankit Virmani, solutions architect: cloud and data engineering, Google, will lead the session.

Overview of the AI product lifecycle is a case study led by Stryker’s Shubham Suresh Patil, staff deep learning engineer, who will evaluate the steps of the AI lifecycle from problem scoping to MLOps, address potential challenges and solutions using a real-world example, and review the process for obtaining FDA approval for medical devices.

The final session will be a discussion on what to expect from AI moving forward. Panelists include Mac Marlow, Chief Information Officer, Southwestern Health Resources who will review President Biden’s Executive AI order and implications, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) AI Risk Management Framework, and will discuss AI business strategy, and how to ensure readiness and anticipate potential issues, and risk mitigation.

The virtual AI in Health Care Summit will take place 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST, Tuesday, February 27 and Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Click here for the full agenda, list of speakers, and registration information.
