Check out the keynotes and officials who have joined our blockbuster roster of more than 50 speakers and 30 sessions for RISE West 2021. The hybrid event will take place August 30-September 2 both live in Colorado Springs and virtually via livestream. This article spotlights four of the can’t-miss sessions.

A world-renowned expert on change, a former chief medical officer of the US Medicaid program, an internationally recognized performance psychologist, and an assistant United States attorney will speak at RISE West, a hybrid event for Medicare Advantage senior leaders.

The event will take place August 30-September 2 in person in Colorado Springs and via livestream for those unable to travel. Topics will focus on ever-changing Star ratings measures, implications of deferred care due to the COVID-19 pandemic, new administration and policy changes, compliance, and member engagement.

The conference will feature virtual and in-person preconference workshops, general sessions, panels, and tracks on risk adjustment and quality; provider engagement; trends in care delivery; member engagement and experience; and compliance and audit readiness.

Keynote: Dr. Jonah Berger on how to change anyone’s mind

Fresh off his popular presentation at the RISE Summit on Social Determinants of Health, Dr. Berger will return with a talk that focuses on how to change anyone’s mind, with specific examples to payer, provider, and member relationships.

Dr. Berger is a world-renowned expert on change, word of mouth, influence, consumer behavior, and how products, ideas, and behaviors catch on. He has published more than 50 articles in top‐tier academic journals and popular outlets like The New York Times and Harvard Business Review often cover his work. 

A marketing professor at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Berger teaches Wharton’s highest rated online course. He is also the internal bestselling author of Contagious, Invisible Influence, and The Catalyst.

Keynote: Dr. Jim Loehr on lessons learned from the world’s best athletes to achieve sustained high performance

As previously announced, Loehr, Ed.D., co-founder of Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute, will offer insights into his 30-plus years of propriety research and training of elite performers, including Olympic gold medalists, military Special Forces, hostage rescue teams, surgeons, and Fortune 500 CEOs to achieve sustained high performance.

His talk will focus on the single most important factor in successful achievement, personal fulfilment, and life satisfaction, with takeaways on how you too can learn these characteristics. 

Dr. Loehr is a co-founder of the Human Performance Institute, a world-renowned performance psychologist, and author of 17 books including his most recent, Leading with Character. He also co-authored the national bestseller, The Power of Full Engagement.

His ground-breaking, science-based energy management training system has achieved world-wide recognition and has been chronicled in leading national publications, including the Harvard Business Review, Business Week, Fortune, Newsweek, Time, U.S. News & World Report, Success, Fast Company, and Omni. He has appeared on NBC’s Today Show, ABC’s Nightline, The CBS Evening News, The CBS Morning News, and the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Keynote: Dr. Andrey Ostrovsky on examining the business of health care

Ostrovsky, M.D., managing partner of Social Innovation Ventures and the former chief medical officer of the US Medicaid program, will review the current and future state of investment in the managed care and digital health care during the closing keynote address on Thursday, Sept. 2.

Dr. Ostrovsky is an investor, senior operating leader, and health policy expert with over a decade of experience applying human-centered design, agile development, lean management, quality improvement, and entrepreneurial principles to eliminate disparities and sustainably achieve the Quadruple Aim. 

He will answer questions on future investments, potential growth areas, the Medicare Advantage sector, and what investors are looking for in their portfolios.

Jonathan A. Porter from the DOJ to join legal panel on audit and compliance trends

Porter, assistant United States attorney for the United States Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Georgia, will join a legal insights panel on audit and compliance issues. The session will feature thoughts on the current state of the law in Medicare Advantage (MA) risk adjustment context, the increasing importance of risk adjustment data validation audits, the government litigation process in MA, government enforcement trends, and an analysis of recent state and federal cases involving compliance problems.

The panel will be moderated by Naomi Irvin, director, Divisional Compliance, Sales, Marketing & Communications, BCBS NC. Panelists will also include Stephen Bittinger, health care audit and integrity partner, K&L Gates, LLP; Edward Baker of Counsel, Constantine Cannon; and William Sarraille, partner, Sidley Austin LLP.
