The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Friday released a white paper to outline and seek feedback on issues that the agencies will use to inform future policy on HHS-Risk Adjustment Data Validation.
The options listed in the 120-page white paper are based on HHS’ ongoing internal analysis of potential refinements to the HHS-RADV program for future benefit years, as well as comment the department has received through notice-and-comment rulemaking and listening sessions with stakeholders. The paper includes options for sample size and error rates.

The department is seeking comments on the options listed in the white paper. Comments are due by Monday, January 6 to CCIIOACARADataValidation@cms.hhs.gov with the subject line of “December 2019 HHS-RADV White Paper.”
The RISE Risk Adjustment Policy Committee is currently reviewing the white paper. Look to RISE for insight and analysis of the proposals in the upcoming weeks.
